Nature has gifted many things to world and one of them is trees. Due to increasing population human beings have developed certain ways to save this gift of nature. Botanic garden, Singapore is one of the attempts to save nature’s gift. Botanic garden is 64 hectare, 2.5 km long beautiful garden situated at Cluny road Singapore. Special about this garden is that it is the single botanic garden which has free entry and is opens from 5 am to 12 in the night. However, small charges are applicable for National Orchid garden, which is situated in botanic garden and hold more than 400 species of 60,000 orchid plants.

The garden was established in year 1822 by Sir Stamford Raffles, who is also creator of modern Singapore. He started a small garden for the motive of growing crops, vegetables, fruits, raw material and spices. Sir Stamford Raffles has a keen interest in nature and due to which colonial government awarded 32 hectare of land to this garden in year 1859. After that garden get many accomplishments and now it has rubber plants and hybridized orchid. The garden has also bearded the impact of war from year 1942 to 1945. During the independence of Singapore, garden has played a very important role in “Greening Singapore” campaign.

The garden has many pulls and one of the main pull is national orchid garden. This garden is hub of the species and hybrids of orchids and it contains more than 60,000 orchid plants. In the garden itself, there is Burkill hall which is used for exhibitions. It shows the information of many different hybrids and history of garden. There is one orchidarium which contain only natural species of hybrid orchids. The best place to visit is coolhouse. There they have created environment of tropical forest and it has orchids which only grows in tropical highland areas.

The special thing about Singapore Botanic Garden is its rainforest. This garden has a rainforest which is 6 hectares in size. Next places to visit here are evolution garden which describes the story of evolution of plants on earth, and ginger garden which contain collection of different species of ginger. Singapore botanic garden has world’s first children park which was built at a cost of seven million USD. This children park has many teaching areas which teach children about photosynthesis and utilization of plants in making beverages, dyes and herbs.

The botanic garden has three lakes which increases the beauty of the garden. These lakes are just beautiful and show real heaven on earth. The garden organizes live concerts on weekends along the lakes which put the harmony and joy in the air. Also, among the main attractions don’t forget Saraca stream walk, palm valley, Sun garden, Bandstand area and Sundial garden. The garden also consists of restaurants and cafes which serve you hot and delicious food.

The garden is still developing and there are many future plans to make this garden more attractive and striking. Some of the future developments are expanding the land to add another 11 hectares, introducing four new gardens. Get there and enjoy the great perseverance of nature.
